Checking Your UCSD E-mail
There are different options for checking your e-mail, so your configuration may vary.
Before you start you will need:
- An active Internet connection.
- Your UCSD e-mail username (the username in username@ucsd.edu).
- Your UCSD e-mail password. This password can be different from the password used to log on to ACMS Computer Lab computers. If you forgot your password, reset it by visiting our Student Global Password Change Tool. You will need to know your PAC code, student ID and username.
- Your student server name (sdcc13, iacs5, ieng9, etc. To look this up, please visit our Account Lookup Tool).
Email How-Tos
For more information about email, visit the ACMS website .Using a Web Browser
Check your e-mail using your web browser from any location.- Using any Web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.), visit http://acs-webmail.ucsd.edu .
- Enter your username, password, and choose your server.
- Hit Login.
- Logout and close the browser window when you're done so no one can go back later and use your account.
- Exclusive use of your UCSD e-mail account will quickly reach your student account e-mail quota. To avoid problems with exceeding quota, empty your trash and clean the inbox occasionally.
E-Mail Client
You can use an e-mail client from any location as well, but you will have to configure it before you can use it. You may find online documentation useful.- UCSD e-mail is accessible with any e-mail client (Mac Mail, Eudora, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc).
- Each e-mail client is slightly different, but most require the following information:
- SMTP server: smtp.ucsd.edu
- Certain ISPs like SBC DSL require the use of an "alternate" SMTP port in order to send mail through a non-SBC SMTP computer.
- Please use port 587 rather than port 25 to get around this particular issue.
- POP or IMAP server: username@yourserver.ucsd.edu where yourserver would be something like sdcc13, iacs5, ieng9, etc.
- Password.
- You will be required to use an SSL connection to help protect the security of your e-mail.
- We do not use Secure Authentication at this time.
- SMTP server: smtp.ucsd.edu
