What's Legal?

Services such as iTunes makes it possible for others to legally "listen to" your music collection, but distributing copyrighted material without the consent of the copyright holder is a felony.

File sharing (distributing and downloading) using Peer-to-Peer file sharing networks and protocols such as BitTorrent, Limewire, Kazaa, eMule, and Direct Connect have become extremely popular. Though there is nothing illegal about file sharing or the file sharing networks themselves, most of what is shared on these networks is copyrighted, and therefore illegal to share. Downloading copyrighted material from an unauthorized source is illegal.
