Setting Up Mac Mail in Tiger (10.4)

This guide has been created to assist you in setting up your e-mail client.

First Section: Creating a New Account

    Step 1: Add Account

    1. Account Type: Choose POP or IMAP

    Step 2: General Information

    1. Description: Describe your email account
    2. Full Name: Your Name
    3. Email Address: Your UCSD Email Address

    Step 3: Incoming Mail Server

    1. Incoming Mail Server: Enter in your mail server at UCSD (e.g., sdcc17, ieng9, etc.)
    2. User Name: Your UCSD username
    3. Password: Your Password

    Step 4: Outgoing Mail Server

    1. Outgoing Mail Server: Type in smtp.ucsd.edu again
    2. Use Authentication: Check mark this box
    3. User Name: Your UCSD username
    4. Password: Your Password

Second Section: Editing Account Settings

    Step 1: Go to Preferences

    1. Go to Mail and select Preferences

    1. Select the Accounts Tab at the top
    2. Select the Accounts Information tab
    3. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) Select Server Settings...

    Step 3: SMTP Settings (Outgoing SSL)

    1. Check mark the box Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    2. Server Port: Type in 465
    3. Authentication: Select Password
    4. User Name: Your UCSD username
    5. Password: Your Password
