- Wireless Routers/Access Point
Please note: All routers connected to the UCSD network must be registered with ResNet, in accordance to the Acceptable Use Policy. Due to security vulnerabilities while using a wireless router, students who want to register their router must come to the ACS Help Desk and a ResNet technician will secure the router. It is your responsibility to keep your device secured from any network vulnerabilities.
How to Obtain Information for an Apple Airport Express/Extreme
[back to top]To register your device, you will have to retrieve some information for us. We will need you to email us with your UCSD email account your:
- Location of dorm
- Make and model of your router
- SSID (name of router)
- Wireless Channel
- WAN MAC Address
- IP Address
- Phone Number
Step 1: Open Airport Admin Utility
- Go to your Applications>Utilities Folder
- Open Airport Admin Utility

Step 2: Retrieve Information: Part I
- IP Address: Your IP address should start with a 172.x.x.x.
- MAC Address: Your MAC Address is listed as Ethernet (WAN)
- Channel: Select any channel to use.
- SSID: Your SSID is your Wireless Network Name
How to Obtain Information for a Linksys Wireless Device
[back to top]To register your device, you will have to retrieve some information for us. We will need you to email us with your UCSD email account your:
- Location of dorm
- Make and model of your router
- SSID (name of router)
- Wireless Channel
- WAN MAC Address
- IP Address
- Phone Number
Step 1: Go to Your Router Homepage
- Open up your internet browser
- In the URL field, enter in the IP adddress for your router. Usually it is 192.168.1.1

Step 2: Retrieve Information: Part I
- Click on the Status tab
- IP Address: Your IP address should start with a 172.x.x.x.
- MAC Address: Your MAC Address is listed as MAC Address

Step 3: Retrieve Information: Part II
- Click on the Wireless tab
- Channel: Select any channel to use.
- SSID: Your SSID is your Wireless Network Name
