Apple Computer Requirements and Recommendations

You will need an up-to-date computer to make full use of UCSD ResNet's connection. Following are the system requirements and recommendations for Mac computers for the 2008-2009 school year.

Minimum Macintosh Requirements 2008-2009

Below are the minimum required specifications for any Macintosh computer to be used on the network. It is not recommended to use a computer on campus under these specifications.

NOTE: Computers that do not meet the minimum requirements will receive limited support.

  • PowerPC Processor
  • 256 MB RAM (512 Recommended)
  • 4 GB hard drive with at least 15% free space
  • 15" monitor
  • OS 10.2 or higher with the latest software updates
  • Ethernet adapter
  • Current firewall program
  • Current anti-virus software package
  • Current Internet Web browser

Recommended Macintosh Computers 2008-2009

For students who intend to keep a computer for four years without a major upgrade:
